Giving an unhinged indie game the blockbuster treatment
Concept / Design / Direction / Scriptwriting / Storyboarding / Motion / Editing
The challenge was to create a campaign that embraced the absurdity of the concept while positioning the game as a genuinely entertaining, action-packed experience. Inspired by exaggerated 80s and 90s action movie trailers, the campaign aimed to introduce key gameplay mechanics to new audiences while reigniting excitement within the existing fanbase.
We approached the campaign like a classic over-the-top action movie launch.
The trailer combined dramatic voiceover, explosive motion graphics, exaggerated pacing and cinematic gameplay capture to amplify the game’s chaotic energy. Every creative decision leaned into the absurdity of the concept while treating the game itself seriously, elevating it beyond meme culture into something that felt genuinely entertaining and distinctive.
Other Visual Assets
Posters
Alongside the trailer, we created a series of spoof action movie posters inspired by classic VHS-era marketing. The posters were used across social, produced for fan giveaways, and later included in the collector’s edition.
I also created bespoke graphic assets for the trailer, including custom lower thirds, title cards and broadcast-style overlays to help reinforce the exaggerated cinematic tone.
Gifs
To extend the campaign beyond the trailer launch, we created a series of 12 GIFs designed for keyboard and social platforms. The collection combined standout moments from the trailer with bespoke scenes inspired by recognisable internet memes — including a certain Homer-in-the-bush reference.
